I'm not a computer guy but I do know that computer techs could hack into the OS of the 5D, they did it with the 300D with the famous russian hack. How hard would it be to hack the 5D and put MLU on the 'printer' button, or at least set the printer button to call up that CF for quick changing? Could it be done? Anyone willing to try or know someone who could?

I think it could make the 5D quite famous and put a serious smile on MR's face (and many many others).

It would invalidate the warranty but if it were a firmware hack, you could just upload the previous firmware before canon saw it....

Cummon, you people are intelligent, someone must be able to do it.

p.s. while you're at it, can you fix the 'C' mode bug? tongue.gif

Send me a 5D for "testing" and I'll get right on that.

Pom,
Try to contact the author of the Digital Rebel FW Hack here. There's also a Yahoo discussion group on Canon camera hacking: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/canondigicamhacking/

Good luck!

I posted there, seems that it's more difficult than I imagined, I have no programming knowledge at all but thought that if 15 year old kids can hack into banks and the FBI and stuff then how hard can a SLR be? I've realised that it may be a teeny weeny bit more complicated than that. Oh well....

Let's hope that Canon implements it in the 5Dn but I wouldn't bet anything on it...I agree that it is cheap to put a "printer" button and no MLU button.

If the 5D runs DOS like the 300D does, then I don't see why not.

I'd say the main thing stopping it from happening is the will to do so. Also most 15 year old hackers (or otherwise) don't exactly have $3K to drop on a 5D.

And those that do probably have a healthy fear of making a $3k paper weight.
