About The Gallery

The Luminous Landscape Photography Gallery and Print Studioopened in March 2007. The gallery has hosted three major shows since then –Antarctica and Amazonia – New Work– in mid-May 2007;Madagascar, which opened in January 2008, and Surprise and Delight, a One Year Retrospective which opened in Spring, 2009 and which is still on display.

The gallery is located in the east end of Toronto, just 5 minutes from downtown.

The gallery has five main purposes..

– as a permanent venue for the display of my photography

– as a gallery for displaying the work of visiting instructors / photographers

– as a working print studio

– as a teaching space which will be used by me as well as for sessions with some of the world’s top visiting photographic educators

– as a studio for the filming of our tutorial videos

The Gallery

My first one-man gallery show was in 1964. Each year since 2001 I have had a show of my recent or collected work at thePikto Galleryin Toronto. These shows typically lasted for 3 – 4 weeks. Many out-of-town visitors have regretted not being able to visit during the time that the shows were up and have asked for a venue where my work can be seen in any month of the year.

I also have wanted a place where special shows can be mounted following a major shoot, not something that always works out with just an annual exhibit.

This gallery also serves to display the work of visiting photographic educators. I use it not only as a teaching space for my own seminars and workshops, but also as a venue for some of the world’s leading photographic instructors. When these photographers and teachers visit Toronto and the gallery for their presentations they can mount a small exhibit of their work for attendees and other visitors to view.

The Print Studio

Like most photographers working out of a home-based office or studio I have long suffered from lack of space, and a limited environment in which to welcome visitors and students. This gallery / print studio provides proper room not only for the large printers that I use but also adequate space for working with students and others when making large prints.

The Teaching Space

One of the primary purposes of this gallery is to serve as a center for my teaching activities in Toronto. In the past I have been teaching in Toronto atPikto,The Canadian Photographic Center, andVistek,as well as at local colleges and art schools. These are in addition to my presentations at international conferences, and field workshops and expeditions.

The gallery allows for seminar style seating for up to 20 students in a large, bright, and comfortable setting, along with access to all of the printing and display tools necessary.

Hours

This is not a typical retail art gallery. It’s open when I’m there working, and closed when I’m not. Otherwise, if you’d like to make an appointment for a viewing, drop me a line. The gallery is just minutes from my home, and I’ll be pleased to try and accommodate your schedule.

Note though that I travel a great deal, and am also out of town most of the summer (the entire months of July and August) as well as most of January and february. Therefore there are no guarantees that I’ll be there on any particular day.
