Just when you didn’t think RAW processors could get any better, along comes Phase One and Capture One 9.  Capture One was one of the first RAW processors for digital photography  originally created to handle the line of Phase One cameras starting in 1999.  Around 2003 Phase One saw the potential of supporting other cameras with Capture One and thus began the version journey to present day version 9.

There are a number of choices out there for processing your images.  Adobe Lightroom being one of the most popular.  However, for many pros and now enthusiasts too Capture One has been and has become their go-to RAW processor.  Why is this?  Image quality is the main reason and the flexibility of the interface.

You can visit the Phase One web site to learn the features of Capture One but some of it’s major strengths are in the things you can’t actually see.  Capture One has gone through a number of iterations of RAW processing engine in the last few years.  It’s all math but it is essential in regards to obtaining the best image quality from a RAW file.  Phase One has also enhanced the interface which can be arranged in any way that you the user would like.  You can drag tools around, leave them floating on the screen or lock them into a certain logical position for your kind of workflow.

You can learn about the New Features at Phase One’s website for Capture One

This was followed by an update tutorial for Capture One 8

And, now our latest update tutorial for Capture One 9.

If you are new to Capture One, we recommend you start with our Capture One 7 overall tutorial.  This will get you started on the basics of importing and using the tools of Capture One.  This should then be followed with the Capture One 8 update tutorial that will orient you to the newest features of version 8.  And, finally the new C1 9 update tutorial with over 100 minutes of new features being presented in an easy to follow 7 chapter series of videos.

This tutorial—like all our videos—is part of your Luminous-Landscape Membership.  We hope you find it helpful in getting the most out of your images. We suggest you bookmark this page and run through the tutorials as you find time. The videos are also available in our Video Library.

Photography is my passion and has been for 45 plus years. My career in photography has allowed me to travel the world, meet some of the most interesting people on the planet and see things I could never have dreamed of. My goal is to share the passion of pictures taking through photographs and teaching with as many people as I can hoping it brings them as much joy and happiness as it has me. I do this through Rockhopper Workshops and other projects as well as teaching at my Gallery in Indianapolis.
