Luminous Landscape Video Journal – Issue 19 features a photographic tour of Namibia led by Michael Reichmann & Andy Biggs.
Visit the eerily beautiful abandoned mining town of Kolmanskop where buildings are being slowly swallowed by sand dunes. Then visit the area of Wolvedans, a ‘moonscape’ of stark rocks and grassland. The highlight is a visit to Sossusvlei and Deadvlei where giant red sand-dunes soar above the stark remains of 800 year-old trees. Finally travel by small plane up the Skeleton Coast over seal colonies and the remains of iron ships to the far northern border area with Angola, visit the stunning Hartmann Valley and the nomadic Himba people. A slideshow follows.
Interview: An interview with scientist Norman Koren – founder of Imatest. A wide-ranging discussion on lens and camera testing and the science of seeing.
Interview: A visit to the Muskoka gallery of Andrew Collett – a highly successful Canadian photographer who has created a thriving business printing his nature photographs on large canvas. The second half of this video features Andrew preparing his photographs for ‘canvas wrapping’ and the subsequent techniques used in stretching and mounting the canvas on frames.
Interivew: An interview with dynamic stock photographer, teacher & author Seth Resnick on the balcony of his South Beach apartment.
Technique: The X-Rite ColorChecker Passport. Michael demonstrates the use of the Passport to set a precise camera profile and white balance under specific lighting conditions on location.
