Michael Durr and Kevin Raber host the live Antarctica Evening event

The world was a different place a month ago. We were in Antarctica enjoying an amazing adventure. Antarctica is an amazing place, and there is no better way to see it through the eyes of someone experiencing it for the first time. I have been traveling to Antarctica since 2005. I have made more than 20 trips to the continent, where I run numerous photography workshops. It’s without a doubt my favorite place on the planet to visit.

On Thursday, March 19, 2020, in the middle of the whole COVID-19 crisis, we held An Evening In Antarctica at The Box in Indianapolis. Our plan was to have a major debut at the event and fill the box with people who could see this presentation for the first time. As it turns out, plans had to be changed. So we decided to hold a live YouTube presentation.

Michael Durr PhotoPXL’s Video Producer, who was an instructor on this trip, documented the expedition in several videos. During this presentation, he shared the locations we visited and the magnificent videos he made.

I hosted this event with Michael, but in true Michael style, he wouldn’t share the videos with me prior to the event. I like surprises, and I have to say, Michael did surprise me and all who were part of the event.

This weekend, stay at home as most of us will be doing. Grab a beverage and snack, and sit down to watch this great adventure. You won’t be disappointed! You’ll visit Punta Arenas, Chile, Antarctica, and Valparaiso, Chile. Michael will walk you through the whole experience through photographs as well as five different videos.

Punta Arenas at 7:00, we visit the Punta Arenas Cemetery. This is one of the most picturesque cemeteries in the world. It’s an amazing place to visit, especially as a photographer.

Antarctica at 26:30 a 15-minute video that takes you on our adventure.

The Second Antarctica Video, a chance to hear more from Art Wolfe and Kevin Raber. We also share the changes we see in Antarctica. There really is global warming — climate change — and we saw it first hand.

The Valparaiso Video. We had to spend an extra two days in Santiago. While there, we took a road trip to Valparaiso a coastal city known for its graffiti art. Join us for an adventure through this amazingly colorful city.

The Final Word

With COVID-19, the world has changed. We are all facing the same challenge wherever we live in the world. I hope that this presentation can help distract you for a little while and give you something to look forward to in the future when the world begins to get back to normal. Please stay safe and healthy, and together we will get through this difficult time.

Photography is my passion and has been for 45 plus years. My career in photography has allowed me to travel the world, meet some of the most interesting people on the planet and see things I could never have dreamed of. My goal is to share the passion of pictures taking through photographs and teaching with as many people as I can hoping it brings them as much joy and happiness as it has me. I do this through Rockhopper Workshops and other projects as well as teaching at my Gallery in Indianapolis.
