It’s been just over two years since I returned from a trip to Antarctica. Since then, I have not traveled as much as I was accustomed to prior to the pandemic, so I have revisited my Antartica images several times over the past couple of years.
One of the things I had been looking forward to creating was a large format photo album to forever cement this trip into a tangible and memorable medium designed to stand the test of time. I have written an article in the past about the amazing print quality of printique.com photo albums and once again, I returned to them to create the album depicted in the accompanying images.
If you’d like to reference my previous article and video on Printique albums you can view them here.
This Antarctica album is 12 inches by 24 inches. Several of the images I laid out span the entire length of the book, when fully opened. It is amazing to sit back and thumb through some of my favorite images from this trip. The gradients in the blues of the ice and the detail of the penguins are truly amazing to see and touch.
It is black leather bound and contains 24 pages. I kept the book strictly images for maximum visual impact. There are few places in the World that have such untouched landscapes along with unique wildlife and I felt adding any text or even putting several images on one page would not do the justice to the enormity of my experience and vastness of the location itself.
My wish is for this book to be brought out when family and friends visit and hopefully it is something that my two boys will hang onto in the future. Seeing images I captured in a digital format being transferred so beautifully to a tangible book brings me a real joy. Some of my Antarctica images are for sale at michaeldurr.com/store and those prints would come directly from Printique.com.
I encourage anyone reading this article to take a look back at some of your fondest photographic moments, whether it’s images from one trip or a collection or your life’s journeys try making an album. The process of selecting images, working on the layout and telling the story visually is an exercise I feel all photographers should do as often as they can. I know for me personally, receiving this photo book has elevated my excitement and inspired me to continue to print my work.
I hope this article has shown you a glimpse at what is possible with Printique.com.

Ever since I can remember, I have loved to tell stories. What better way to tell a story than through video and photography? Capturing a smile, a special moment or an event provides an opportunity for the subjects to relive and share their experiences.
I have always been dedicated to becoming a better photographer, but I have made a living in video. After studying broadcast journalism at Illinois State University, I began my career in Central Illinois – creating commercials and on-air promotions for local television affiliates.
From 2008 to 2012, I had the incredible opportunity of working at The Marketing Store, where I created content for clients such as McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, and Southern Comfort. I grew tremendously in my tenure at The Marketing Store and really tapped into my creative potential. From there, I worked for Maddock Douglas, an innovation consulting firm, where I was able to utilize my skills, and maximize my creative potential.
Recently, I was a creative director at FÁS Chicago, a marketing agency located in Chicago. I now reside in Indianapolis with my wife and son and I have started Michael Durr Photo/Video, LLC. I am excited to continue working in this ever-changing and fun environment and look forward to the new opportunities that await on the horizon.
Throughout my career, talented friends and great mentors have surrounded me. I have been fortunate to wake up every day never feeling like I was going to work. The combination of my professional experience, personality and drive to improve has given me a unique perspective from behind the lens.
It is a combination of work and life that inspires me.
The truth about Ricoh's latest pocket rocket: the GR IV succeeds at everything it tries to do, but refuses to give what most photographers want in 2025.
