To celebrate 25 years of Lumix, Panasonic’s launching Lumix Collective, a run of community events in seven cities this November and December. If you live near one of them, maybe put it on your calendar.
Happy Birthday, Lumix
On October 27, 2001, Matsushita Electric, the company behind the Panasonic brand, put the first Lumix cameras on sale in Japan. The flagship DMC-LC5 packed a Leica DC Vario-Summicron lens and a whopping 3.9 megapixels. Back then, that was a big deal.
Panasonic kicked off the anniversary year back in May with the Lumix L10, and now it’s taking the celebration on the road.

The Tour
Here’s where Lumix Collective is stopping:
- Manchester: November 17
- Sydney: November 20
- Berlin: November 21
- São Paulo: November 24
- Milan: November 25
- Paris: December 4
- New York: early December, exact date to come
Panasonic describes the events as workshops, hands-on time with the gear and “inspiring conversations.”
Here’s the deal: come meet the Lumix team, share your feedback and help shape the future of Lumix.
Registration for the European stops (Manchester, Berlin, Milan and Paris) is open now through Ticket Tailor. Sign-ups for Sydney, São Paulo and New York are coming soon, so follow Lumix on Instagram for updates. Regional Lumix accounts are posting registration links in their bios as forms go live.
Think of it as a hang out. Play with the latest gear, meet other photographers and artists, and tell the Lumix team what you’d love to see next.
Twenty-Five Years in a Few Big Steps
Lumix has come a long way for a brand that started with a 3.9-megapixel point-and-shoot. Click any camera name below to check out LuLa’s review from back then and see what we thought at the time:
- 2008, the G1: the first camera built for the new Micro Four Thirds mount. Small, mirrorless and interchangeable, years before that became the norm
- 2009, the GH1: the start of the GH line, built from day one to do photos and video equally well
- 2014, the GH4: 4K video in a body you could carry in a small bag
- 2017, the GH5: the world’s first mirrorless camera to shoot 4K at 60p
- 2019, the S1 and S1R: Panasonic’s jump into full frame on the L-Mount
- 2019, the S1H: the first mirrorless camera approved for Netflix productions, and at the time the cheapest camera on that list by a wide margin
Panasonic helped prove the hybrid concept: a small mirrorless body that could handle serious stills and serious video. A lot of indie filmmakers and hybrid shooters built careers on those cameras.

The Anniversary Camera: Lumix L10
Panasonic picked a pocketable compact to headline its anniversary year. The L10 is the long-awaited follow-up to the LX100 II from 2018.
Number 255. That’s how many Lumix models Panasonic has made in 25 years, about ten a year.
The highlights:
- Lens: Leica DC Vario-Summilux 24-75mm equivalent at f/1.7-2.8, with macro focus down to 3cm at the wide end
- Sensor: Four Thirds, 20.4 effective megapixels, with the same angle of view across 4:3, 3:2 and 16:9
- Autofocus: phase hybrid with 779 points and AI subject recognition
- Speed: up to 30fps with the electronic shutter
- Viewfinder and screen: a 2.36-million-dot OLED EVF and a 1.84-million-dot fully articulating screen
- Weight: about 508g
It’s going for about $1,499 in black or silver. The Titanium Gold Special Edition costs $1,599 and comes with gold-themed menus, a clean front with the branding tucked on the back where only you can see it, support for screw-in shutter buttons, and a titanium-colored auto lens cap, leather strap and lens cloth. Same camera inside, just a little fancier on the outside.
The zoom gives you a flexibility edge over fixed-lens rivals like Fujifilm’s X100VI.

Why You Should Go
This one sounds like a get-together. You can try the latest gear, take a workshop and meet other Lumix shooters. You also can talk directly with the people who make the cameras.
And if you’ve been eyeing the L10, this is your chance to hold one before you buy.
Happy 25th, Lumix
From a 3.9-megapixel compact to Netflix-approved cinema bodies, Lumix has spent 25 years making small cameras do big things. If you’re near Manchester, Sydney, Berlin, São Paulo, Milan, Paris or New York, go raise a glass, try some gear and tell them what you want for the next 25.
