Jan Bell and Kevin Raber
Jan Bell and Kevin Raber

Earlier this month, Jan Bell contributed an article about his work and how he has defined such a recognizable style to his work. I genuinely admire his career, but more than that, I respect his energy and grit. Jan has been battling a form of cancer, and it has caused him great pain and hampered his ability to sometimes get out there and do his photography.

He persevered, though, and while undergoing treatments, he never gave up. He serves as an inspiration to me and others. He is now declared cancer-free after a long battle.

I really love any photographer that can make a print, and when I look at it can recognize it as theirs. Jan’s work is like that. His eye, his contemplative ability, and his skill with printing black and white images prove what a fine and disciplined photographer he is.

I asked Jan if he wouldn’t mind discussing his work and what is behind it. Thus, I present another in our continuing series of Conversations With. Please join Jan and me as we discuss his beautiful black and white photography. I hope it serves as inspiration for your own work.

Photography is my passion and has been for 45 plus years. My career in photography has allowed me to travel the world, meet some of the most interesting people on the planet and see things I could never have dreamed of. My goal is to share the passion of pictures taking through photographs and teaching with as many people as I can hoping it brings them as much joy and happiness as it has me. I do this through Rockhopper Workshops and other projects as well as teaching at my Gallery in Indianapolis.
