As the year winds down and winter light settles soft and low – or for our friends in the southern hemisphere, as summer sun stretches long into the evening – we find ourselves pausing to reflect.
No matter where you are, the turning of the year invites us to look back at the ground we’ve covered and ahead to the horizons waiting for us.
Ansel Adams once said, “Sometimes I arrive just when God’s ready to have someone click the shutter.” There’s something beautiful in that thought – the idea that we’re not just taking pictures, but showing up for moments that were waiting for us.
This year, so many of you showed up. For us, for each other, for the light.
2025 brought change to Luminous Landscape. We welcomed the PhotoPXL family into ours, honoring Kevin Raber’s vision and legacy while finding new ways to grow together. Kevin believed photography was about connection – between photographer and subject, between artist and audience, between all of us who chase the light. That spirit lives on in everything we do here.
None of this happens without the people who pour their hearts into this publication and community. To our incredible contributors – in complete random order – Mark Segal, Blain Harasymiw, Terry McDonald, Eric Meola, Ctein, Dan Wells, Dana Stirling, Srinivasan Periathiruvadi, David Osborn, Jeremy Roussak, Ed Schlotzhauer, Alain Briot, Michael Durr, Chris Sanderson, Jeff Schewe, and Debra Fadley – thank you for sharing your expertise, your curiosity, and your passion with our community. You make us smarter and better photographers.
To Robin, my partner, who keeps the whole operation running and without whom we’d be wandering lost in the wilderness – thank you for everything you do behind the scenes.
And to Sunshine – yes, her name really is Sunshine, which we maintain is either the most perfect coincidence or destiny for a landscape photography publication. Thank you for the countless hours of work that our readers never see but absolutely feel.
Most of all, thank you to every one of you reading this. You show up week after week, curious and engaged, ready to learn and share and grow. You ask great questions. You push us to be better. You remind us why we fell in love with photography in the first place.
Edward Weston wrote, “To photograph truthfully and effectively is to see beneath the surfaces.” This community sees beneath surfaces – in images, in technique, in each other. That’s rare and wonderful.
As we head into the new year, we’re excited to keep shooting, keep creating, and keep exploring alongside you. The light is always changing, and there’s always more to discover.
We’d love to hear from you. Send us your favorite image from this year – whether it’s one you captured or one that inspired you – to [email protected]. Tell us why it matters to you, how it came to be. We may share some of these stories as we kick off 2025 together.
From our family to yours – Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and warmest wishes for whatever you celebrate this season. May your holidays be filled with good light, good company, and moments worth remembering.
Here’s to another year of chasing the light together.
With gratitude,
Team LuLa
