Kory EasterwayA number of weeks ago, we were making two On The Rocks videos. One of these videos was on the Fuji Large Format,  GFX Cameras. If you haven’t checked it out, feel free to do so, as you’ll learn a lot about the Fujifilm large format camera line. It was at this video production that an idea was hatched.

Kory Easterday, an Indianapolis-based photographer, uses Fuji 50r and Fuji 50s cameras. He was invited by Michael Durr, our video producer, to be present during the production. Kory does some amazing digital art and fashion photography, and he shared with us an idea he had for a three-model photoshoot.

Michael Bolbenko, the Fuji representative who was doing the videos with us, was intrigued and arranged to loan us a GFX100 with lenses for this production and review. A week later, the camera arrived, and we dove into non-stop shooting with it. We tested it out under various conditions and were amazed at how well it performed. A separate review with downloadable images and a video will be coming soon.

Setting up layers in Photoshop for the composite

Kory had also arranged to do a speculative photography shoot of rather large proportions with the Fuji GFX100. He was offered a friend’s lake house close to Indianapolis, and he assembled a team with a preconceived idea of what he wanted to produce. As you’ll see in the video, this was a pretty intensive crew. In addition to pulling the shoot-off, he needed some specialized equipment (e.g., a camera jib along with operators).

It was an all-day production, setting the shot up and prepping the makeup and wardrobe for the models. During the shoot, later in the evening, a number of different poses and setups were photographed at the direction of Kory. As you will see in the video, it was an extensive shoot. The shoot wasn’t the end of it, though.

The Behind The Scenes Video (10:00 min.)

As a digital artist, Kory needed to now get to work in compositing the final image. Kory is quick to explain that he is a digital artist. Photography is just part of this. He must take the images with thoughts on how they will be used. Then using Photoshop, he will assemble the images using Photoshop’s powerful tools until he reaches his final image, which is a combination of many photographic elements.

I want to thank Kory Easterday for allowing us to be part of this production. A great big thanks to Michael Durr, who has outdone himself during the making of this video. Also, a thank you to Michael Bolbenko and Fujifilm who arranged the use of the GFX100 and lenses. I hope you like this PXL Behind The Scenes production. We have more planned, and it’s not just about photoshoots like this.

Photography is my passion and has been for 45 plus years. My career in photography has allowed me to travel the world, meet some of the most interesting people on the planet and see things I could never have dreamed of. My goal is to share the passion of pictures taking through photographs and teaching with as many people as I can hoping it brings them as much joy and happiness as it has me. I do this through Rockhopper Workshops and other projects as well as teaching at my Gallery in Indianapolis.
