Every year America celebrates the 4th Of July. It marks the official beginning of summer but more than anything else celebrates America’s independence. These days a lot is being said about America and especially the leadership and government.

No matter what though one thing that doesn’t change is Americans. Americans are proud and no matter what they are strong when they need to be. As an American, I am proud to have the freedom to do and say what I want without repercussion. I live in a beautiful country that has so much to offer.  I am privileged to be part of this great country.  A country that has been built on immigration and dreams.  No matter where we are as a country today I know that we will find our way as we always have and we will be strong.  I am proud to be an American and to have had all the benefits that come along with it.

For our Non-American readers, we welcome you to visit and enjoy this great country.   I have had the privilege to travel all over this planet.  I have met people and photographers from just about every country.  And, one thing that I have found is that regardless of politics, most of the people on this planet are super nice people.  I have enjoyed over the years witnessing how photography has brought many of us together with a common passion.  While the news can be depressing much of the time, if you get out and meet people and participate and travel and make new friends from around the world you might be surprised as things aren’t quite as bad as they are made out to be.  My advice, turn the news off for a day.

I am a proud father that has and had sons in the military. My wife Debra has a son in the Navy, and her daughter works directly with veterans. Please remember those in uniform that give so much.  The fourth of July is about celebrating all things American. Almost every community has a parade and fireworks, and families enjoy Bar-B-Que and time together.

On behalf of Chris, Debra and myself we wish you and your family a happy and safe Fourth of July. Thank you for being part of the Luminous-Landscape family.

On Wednesday, we will publish Part 3 the final segment of the Ed Burtynsky interview.

Please Enjoy Some Fourth of July Photos

Photographed in Carmel, Indiana.  Carmel puts on one of the biggest parades anywhere.  Tons of people, miles of bands, floats, and other oddities.  Simply a darn good Fourth of July celebration.

Preview from the upcoming 12-24mm lens review. This is a terrific lens.

Photography is my passion and has been for 45 plus years. My career in photography has allowed me to travel the world, meet some of the most interesting people on the planet and see things I could never have dreamed of. My goal is to share the passion of pictures taking through photographs and teaching with as many people as I can hoping it brings them as much joy and happiness as it has me. I do this through Rockhopper Workshops and other projects as well as teaching at my Gallery in Indianapolis.
