We are celebrating the fourth of July again. A year ago I did not know if we were ever going to be getting together with friends again. We were all pretty much in a lockdown state. No celebrations, no parades, no cook-outs. Well, we are celebrating this year.
Parades are back, cookouts are back.Let’s not forget those who have paid the ultimate price during this pandemic. It hit our family hard with Debra’s father passing because of the pandemic. Let’s still be careful, many people have no access to the vaccine as we have in the US.
This barn is along the main road into the Palouse and is always flying the American flag. Very iconic for the Palouse. (shot on my iPhone and enhanced with a few apps, Snapseed and Distressed and those pesky birds)
I just returned from running two photography workshops in the Palouse. It felt so good to be out there again. Not only was I in the Palouse, which I consider to be my happy place. I was taking pictures and sharing the great locations with a group of very cool photographers.
Yesterday we hosted a party for some friends that are moving. Everyone has been vaccinated, and it was like old times. It’s so nice to socialize again. I hope it lasts. Some parts of the world aren’t so lucky.
South America is going through an enormous wave of infections. As a result, we aren’t planning to do any Antarctica workshops until 2023. In the next week or so I will announce a February 2023 Photographers Cruise to Antarctica. I’m also looking forward to a possible South Georgia – Antarctica trip in the near future too.
I have a lot more interesting things to share soon. I will share that we are moving our gallery/studio to a new location in the same building. The building was recent purchased and is about to go through a major remodel. I am very optimistic that what is coming will be amazing. It will also fit our new business model. More on this very soon.
In closing, I want to thank you for being part of the PXL family. I especially want to that all the talented people who have contributed articles to our website.Without the aid of Debra, my wonderful wife, Chris Sanderson, Michael Durr and many others, photoPXL would not be here. We will continue to work hard every day to make this site better.
Parades are back. So much to celebrate.
Have a Happy Forth of July.

Photography is my passion and has been for 45 plus years. My career in photography has allowed me to travel the world, meet some of the most interesting people on the planet and see things I could never have dreamed of. My goal is to share the passion of pictures taking through photographs and teaching with as many people as I can hoping it brings them as much joy and happiness as it has me. I do this through Rockhopper Workshops and other projects as well as teaching at my Gallery in Indianapolis.
The truth about Ricoh's latest pocket rocket: the GR IV succeeds at everything it tries to do, but refuses to give what most photographers want in 2025.
