Today is Memorial Day. It’s a day we remember all of those who have served and sacrificed their lives so we can have the life and freedom that we so enjoy today. It’s always been a special day for my family and me. I am the proud father of two boys who have served this country in the Navy and Army SF. My oldest son is still serving. He went into the Marines the Saturday after 9/11. After serving a number of deployments he was recruited to the Special Forces, where he still serves today 19 years later.
Debra has a son who also has served numerous years in the Navy along with numerous deployments on an Arleigh Burke Class Destroyer.
Having had sons who served I can tell you they do so with a dedication that most people can’t understand. Today I not only honor our sons but all the men and women who have served, are serving and especially those that have given the ultimate sacrifice, their lives for this great country.
Take a moment and give thanks, even in a time of such confusion and crisis and remember not only those who have served in our armed forces but also those that have been serving on the front lines of this pandemic and more than anything else those that have lost their lives in this crisis trying to save others.
This year is the beginning of getting back out there and starting a new normal. As a country we have been through a lot on numerous fronts, but we are all Americans and no matter which was you cut it we are a determined bunch who know how to overcome adversity and meet challenges head on. I live in Indianapolis and it’s an especially proud day here as we run the Indy 500 with fans in the stands.
Please be safe out there. Use common sense and think of others. Our family has experienced what this virus can do first hand. It’s not something you would wish on anyone. Take precautions and get vaccinated and hopefully in a few months as a country and a world we can come out of these dark times and live our lives normally again.
From the bottom of our hearts, my wife Debra and I wish to thank those that have served our great country and especially thank our sons for doing so. We love you!
And, one last thing. It’s not a bad day to take out your cameras, practice good social distancing, and get out and take some photos. I did so this morning and will share a short story in the next day about my coffee with the Sony a1 and 200-600mm lens in my backyard. It was a glorious morning.
