Publisher’s Note: Every now and then I stumble upon a photographer who I think does remarkable work.  I always love seeing what new talent is producing and find it refreshing to see new approaches to photography.  This kind of work inspires all of to see differently and not to be afraid of trying something new.  When I saw Jose’s work I got in touch with him and asked if he would share his work and experiences with us. 
I hope you enjoy his article about his photography adventures and that you are inspired to shoot differently next time you’re out in the field.  I know we’ll see more of Jose’s work in the future.

Photo made in the unique palafite pier in Carrasqueira, Portugal. This is one of the few remaining palafite constructions in the world, used by Portuguese fishermen to keep their boats anchored.

My name is José Ramos and I'm a 35 years old landscape photographer, currently located in Lisbon. I have been shooting for 13 years and I'm specialized in long exposure photography, mostly focusing on waterscapes. I was fortunate for having been born in Beja, located in the region of Alentejo, south of Portugal, well known for its endless plains and gorgeous sunsets, where Nature is still respected and revered. Mountain biking and other outdoor activities kept me close to Nature until I was 18 years old, but then I had to move to Lisbon to start studying Medicine. Moving to a much larger city and enrolling in an extremely demanding university meant loosing the frequent contact with the outdoors I was used too. As if it weren't enough, my chosen mean of artistic expression - guitar playing in a band - would also inevitably end with this move to our capital city.
