Form and Function = Legendary Design
I am always in awe of good industrial design. It amazes me that a design team can make such products like an Apple MacBook and fit everything into it that makes it run and on the outside make it look so attractive. Well, Leica has done that with all of their products.
From the first Leica to the newest releases design has been as important as function. The latest releases from Leica like the TL and CL are super examples of fantastic design skills. They have taken it to the limits with a lot of courage and have produced cameras that are unlike any that can be found elsewhere. The newest cameras have minimal labeling, ports and other plugs. The newest cameras are carved out of blocks of aluminum. They feel good in your hands, and they function much different than other cameras. German engineering and design have always been legendary. Design of Leica’s cameras is also legendary. In this chapter of the Leica story, I sit with Mark Shipard, Head Of Design for Leica. We discuss camera design and other things. Mark shares the design process and how Leica has achieved such amazingly bold cameras.
