We asked. You delivered.
This month we challenged the Luminous Landscape community to see landscapes differently — to exaggerate scale with ultra-wide glass, to find solitude in negative space, and to reveal the vulnerable side of our changing world. The images that came back were wonderful! Thank you for sharing
January’s Prompts
Exaggerate depth and scale with an ultra-wide lens. Convey solitude through a minimal subject in vast expanse. Reveal vulnerability – erosion, dead trees, environmental change.
What we love about the Luminous Landscape community is seeing how the same prompt sparks completely different visions. That’s the magic of this community – we’re all chasing light, but we each see it our own way. Thank you for sharing.

Larry Angier
“Erosion”
Why we love it: The black and white tones and the movement over the rock gives a sense of vulnerability and change over time.

Larry Angier
“Solitude”
Why we love it: The expression on the woman’s face gives a sense of contemplation and weight.

Larry Angier
“Ultrawide landscape (cultural landscape)”
Why we love it: The drama! Nice use of wide-angle lens with the subject.

Tom Biondo
“Vulnerability”
Why we love it: Nailed the assignment! The tones are lovely but the juxtaposition of subjects is poignant.

“I’d summarize my experience as being present to openness and questioning, across the spectrum of working with a new to me camera and format, as well as a new basement workflow. Shot on Pentax 6X7, Tri-X 120.”
Why we love it: Thank you for all the submissions. We picked this one to share as the black and white is gorgeous and has a strong subject. The way the light highlights the plants gives it real emotion.

Richard Evans | Macrophotography
“Using focus stacking and traditional methods of focus and post processing.“
Why we love it: Richard gave us many good macros to pick from. We chose this one to share as the stacking and composition was strong. We could put this under perhaps the solitude category.

Lynn Carter
“Really enjoying everything Luminous Landscape brings to us! Here’s a scene shot last fall on Cape Cod at low tide.“
Why we love it: Wonderful use of black and white. The couple walking scene really shows great use of aspect ratio.

Lynn Carter
“Solitude.“
Why we love it: The wintry road really gives a feeling of solitude – almost feels like a painting.

Peter Campbell
“Lake Ballard is a salt lake situated 800 km east of Perth in Western Australia. In 2003 the British sculptor Anthony Gormley was commissioned to create 51 abstract body forms, cast in metal and spread over a 7 square kilometre area of lake bed. My photo depicts the insignificance of the human form in this harsh environment. Lake Ballard is a nationally significant ecosystem that requires protection – it is in the middle of the Yilgarn Craton, one of the oldest bits of earth, between 2.9 and 3.5 billion years old!“
Why we love it: Nailed the assignment! Solitude.

Frank Davis
“Solitude“
Why we love it: We really like the sun light backlighting the subject.
