Right Up My Alley
Right Up My Alley

I love finding cool things and new things that make me stop and ask myself how did they do that.

My son who has had a career in the Army is retiring soon.  He has done some amazing things and seen some things.  I am very proud of his career and how he served our country.  As he readies for retirement he has decided to start a few businesses on his exit that all are related to drone technology and consulting.  Over the coming months, I’ll have more to share about his new journey as I will be helping him out when I can.  I’ll feature some of his projects when the time is right.  It’s all about technology and what it does to allow us as creatives to extend our vision further and further.

He’s very excited as he just got ahold of the new DJI- FPV Drone.  He’s amazed at what it can do and knowing him he will make some incredible videos with it.

A little while back we featured a local Indianapolis artist and super drone flyer Paul Nurkkala – The Ultimate Drone Flyer – Paul Nurkkala Vignette.  Check out his article but more than anything else take a look at Flight of the Year – Trains, Bridges, Rapids, Mountains, Sunset, Gapping, Perching, Powerlooping this shows some of the most incredible FPV drone flying I have ever seen (with over 2,600.000 views kind of made him famous).

Then my son (his name is Kevin too) sent me a link.  He said you won’t believe this and he was right.  It takes FPV flying and videos to a whole new level.  Rally Studios made an FPV (First Person View) short video of a drone flying from outside into a bowling alley and it flies all over the bowling alley flying down lanes, under peoples feet, around small groups where you pick up snippets of conversation and pretty much through the whole building.  It is really quite something to see that will leave you asking.  How ow did they do that?  Well, that is a good question.  According to Kevin, there had to be lots of planning, and before the flight was recorded many practice runs.  The drone pilot has to be thinking seconds ahead of where the next maneuver will be.  And, it’s all being done as if he was inside the drone itself. Add the sound engineering and snippets that are cut in and the fact that this appears to all be done in one take.

This kind of video-making will be seen more and more as technology allows us to do incredible photography in so many different ways.  I. just love it!

Please enjoy the video as it will mesmerize you.

Photography is my passion and has been for 45 plus years. My career in photography has allowed me to travel the world, meet some of the most interesting people on the planet and see things I could never have dreamed of. My goal is to share the passion of pictures taking through photographs and teaching with as many people as I can hoping it brings them as much joy and happiness as it has me. I do this through Rockhopper Workshops and other projects as well as teaching at my Gallery in Indianapolis.
