Photokina 2006 Videoblog

Michael Reichmann

This page contains brief video reports filed directly from the floor of the bi-annualPhotokinatrade show in Cologne, Germany. Unlike the professionally produced broadcast-quality HD videos in our DVD publicationThe Luminous Landscape Video Journal, these are small web resolution videos, and are produced for rapid distribution of content rather with any serious eye toward production values.

These were shot with aSony SR-100camcorder, and edited on location withImovie HDandFinal Cut Pro5 on aMacbook 13″. These videos were reported, shot, and edited by Michael Reichmann.

Please note that these videos are being hosted on two different servers. Each new videoblog will first be posted on this site’s server so it can make it to air immediately when editing is finished. The video will also be uploaded toYouTube, and as soon as it appears there (sometimes a matter of many hours) the local link will be removed and the video will thenceforth be linked to YouTube (still accessible here, just hosted there). The reason for this is that 40-50,000 people a day downloading multiple streaming videos, each of which will be 15-100MB in size, would quickly bring this server to its knees. YouTube has the bandwidth.

Note that to view the videos streaming from this server you will needQuicktime 7or higher, while those streaming from YouTube are in Flash format, and therefore likely not to need any updated software on any except the oldest computers. Of course you will need a broadband internet connection to view these videos properly.
