It's Showtime

photplus1

photoplus-2
This has been a fast-paced year for photography and especially new introductions of cameras, printers and much other photo-related gear.  Once a year most of the photographic manufacturers converge on New York City for the PhotoPlus Expo held at the Javits Convention Center.  This year’s show starts tomorrow and runs through Saturday.

Thousands of photographers visit this event and its a good chance to see the newest gear, hold it and ask representatives those tough questions on everyone’s mind.  Except for last year when I was running a workshop out of the country I have been coming to this show for 16 years.  The show is big, but nowhere near as big as Photokina and believe it or not as large as this show is especially if you have never been to it before it was once even larger taking up nearly twice as much space.  In either case, it is a lot to see for the three days the show runs.

I’ll be at the show on Thursday and Friday.  I have numerous appointments and meetings with some prominent vendors.  I’ll also have time to explore.  One of the fun things about a show like this is discovering the small guys.  The ones that are showing for the first time with something different.  Unfortunately due to prior commitments Michael will not be joining me this year so I’ll be there on my own.  That means I have a lot to cover for my two days there.

I plan on publishing a show update on Friday morning and Saturday evening.  Keep you eye out for those posts.  I’ll include photos and short write-ups on what I find and see at the show.

Coming Soon

As our regular readers know, we don’t usually make big announcements about new products when they launch.  We get tons of press releases everyday.  Yesterday Leica launched their new SL Mirrorless Camera.  We did not announce the camera but tomorrow we expect to publish a review on this camera. Check back to learn what this camera is all about.

Next week is a busy week once I return from the show.  Michael will be visiting me in Indianapolis, and we have some projects we are working on including some new things with the Endowment.  We also plan to launch a new feature to the Luminous-Landscape site next week.  So, keep your eye out for that.

If you are at the show, look for me and introduce yourself.  It would be great to meet. I am not that hard to spot, and I’ll be wearing a shirt with the Luminous-Landscape logo on it.  Hope to see you there.

Photography is my passion and has been for 45 plus years. My career in photography has allowed me to travel the world, meet some of the most interesting people on the planet and see things I could never have dreamed of. My goal is to share the passion of pictures taking through photographs and teaching with as many people as I can hoping it brings them as much joy and happiness as it has me. I do this through Rockhopper Workshops and other projects as well as teaching at my Gallery in Indianapolis.
