On The Road Again

On The Road Again
On The Road Again

It’s been a busy summer so far with exciting new camera activity from the manufacturers.   This week the Luminous-Landscape team of Michael, Chris and myself are hitting the road.  Michael is flying to Portland for a Sony event.  I fly to NYC under Strict NDA for a meeting and hopefully will have some exciting news soon from that trip.  On Wednesday Chris and I will meet Michael in Portland and we will begin a road trip that will eventually deposit us in Pullman, Washington where we will spend several days shooting in the Palouse.

We are loaded with a car full of new gear on this trip. I can mention some here and others will have to wait for the announcement embargoes to be lifted.  We do have the NEW Phase One XF with us and we’ll be reporting on using it in the field.  We’ll have a pre-production medium format camera, the Sony A7 II and A7r II. In addition we’ll be shooting with the new Batis lenses on the Sony and with a wide range of Sony glass including the 90mm and 35mm.

Sigma has given us the NEW Quattro Pro to try out.  We are curious to see if anything has changed since our last experience with the Sigma Quattro.  Olympus has been rounding out its camera system with rumors of news coming soon.  In the meantime we’ll shoot with the new 8mm and 7-14mm Pro lens line on the OM-D M5 II. We’ve been testing the incredible Sony RX 100 iv for a few weeks and will feature this small and powerful camera too.

There are two interesting cameras that work with the iPhone, the Olympus Air and the DXO One.  Are these cameras the start of something new?  We’ll give them a try and be sure to tell you what we think.  Chris will be testing a new Anamorphic lens for the iPhone from Moondoglabs.  We’re testing the Peak Designs camera strap line too. Michael will also have the Canon G3X as well as the PZ 28-135mm lens.  And, to round things out we will be trying the new GoPro Hero 4 Session.

This is the stuff we can talk about.  Hopefully we’ll have other news we can share soon.  During our absence we have a number of articles lined up and when possible we’ll report from the field.  The Palouse is a great place for trying out this new gear and we’ll be quite busy during our time there.   It’s always fun when we get together.  Chris will be doing videos of our adventure and segments for each of the upcoming reviews. In addition, Michael and I plan to do a new ‘Kevin and Michael’s Toy Shop’ video. We will also have a discussion on the industry and all the new cameras and gear that has been announced, and what it means for you and the future of photography.

Also we are very close to releasing the Capture One 8.x update video tutorial and another major video release aimed at Landscape Photographers.  August will be a very busy month for new stories, reviews and videos. Remember to check out our exciting workshops too. Stay tuned for  ‘updates from the road.

Photography is my passion and has been for 45 plus years. My career in photography has allowed me to travel the world, meet some of the most interesting people on the planet and see things I could never have dreamed of. My goal is to share the passion of pictures taking through photographs and teaching with as many people as I can hoping it brings them as much joy and happiness as it has me. I do this through Rockhopper Workshops and other projects as well as teaching at my Gallery in Indianapolis.
