A few years ago, I stumbled upon some really amazing images on the internet. I was so impressed that I reached out to the photographer, Sharon Tenenbaum, and asked if she would write an article for our website. Sharon has an incredible eye for architecture and cityscapes. Maybe it’s because she has an engineering background. Nevertheless, her work and the thought that goes into her images are evident and stand out when compared to other photographers.

Hand Painted B&W Image

Her photography balances the use of light and shadow and how it plays on shapes. One of her articles on PXL is “Telling A Visual Story Through Light and Shadow.” This article is about telling a story. In this article, Sharon shares how she approaches a shot and the aspects needed to make it an outstanding and one-of-a-kind photograph.

Sharon’s NEW ebook Long Exposure

Sharon taught herself the craft through her own research and experience behind the camera. She is also a master at long exposure photography and has recently published a new e-book on the subject. I highly recommend it as it full of practical knowledge that will help anyone doing long exposure photography. https://www.sharontenenbaum.com/the-ultimate-guide-to-long-exposure-fine-art-photography

Once the COVID-19 crisis hit and we entered lockdown, I thought it would be good to have some Zoom conversations with photographers from around the world. The goal was to talk to photographers about how their business, as well as their photography, was changing due to the COVID-19 crisis.

In our conversation, you’ll learn how Sharon got started in photography as well as how she developed a style of photography in recognizable as hers. It seems that many of the successful photographers I talk to have a number of things in common. Sharon was given a camera and she fell in love with taking photographs. That seems to be the story I hear so often.

As time went on, Sharon started to swing into doing architecture photography. As she takes photos, she thinks the whole process through. As she is shooting, she is already thinking about how to do the post-processing. This method leaves her photography with a distinct look.

I hope you enjoy our conversation. We could have talked for much longer. In the video, we mention Long Exposure Magazine (LE Magazine). This is a great publication for those who love doing long exposure.

Photography is my passion and has been for 45 plus years. My career in photography has allowed me to travel the world, meet some of the most interesting people on the planet and see things I could never have dreamed of. My goal is to share the passion of pictures taking through photographs and teaching with as many people as I can hoping it brings them as much joy and happiness as it has me. I do this through Rockhopper Workshops and other projects as well as teaching at my Gallery in Indianapolis.
