Charlie and Kevin Printing and Critique

We are coming down to the end of our Shooting with The Masters series.  Charlie Cramer has been so gracious to share a week of his time with us.  We have covered photography in the field, gear and best of all, the thought and processes of making prints.

We have two videos to share today.  This is the next to the last video series.  Being landscape shooters we had to sooner or later reach into our bags and bring out our neutral density filters.  Of course one of a photographer’s favorite things to shoot with ND filters is water and that’s exactly what we did.

Rockspine seemed an appropriate title for this portion.  We explore the thought behind making a print of this image.  Charlie helps get past the diffraction worries by stating that if you need something in focus, you may just have to stop down as he did in the shot to f/22.  We follow the process on this print that presented its own challenges.  It’s a difficult task to balance out bright areas and dark areas as well as working with an image that is slightly underexposed.

The second video we look at the images I made during our time together.  One of the things that has always been valuable to me is sharing my images with other photographers and discussing the merits of each other’s prints.  In this video, Charlie and I talk about the prints I made during our time together.  This is fun as we get a chance to see both the similarities as well the differences in each other’s vision while shooting at the same locations.

Yosemite, By Charles Cramer

At the end of the second video, we take a quick look at Charlie’s book Yosemite.  This book is available on AMAZON.

Photography is my passion and has been for 45 plus years. My career in photography has allowed me to travel the world, meet some of the most interesting people on the planet and see things I could never have dreamed of. My goal is to share the passion of pictures taking through photographs and teaching with as many people as I can hoping it brings them as much joy and happiness as it has me. I do this through Rockhopper Workshops and other projects as well as teaching at my Gallery in Indianapolis.
