Some Good Things On The Horizon

Zion National Park
Zion National Park

I have been doing photography workshops since 2004. I love traveling, and more than anything else, I love to help photographers get their best photographs in some of the most unique locations on the planet. Please watch the accompanying video as I share where I am headed with workshops in the future.

I created a separate company to handle my workshop business. I often get asked why I didn’t keep the workshop business under photoPXL. The simple answer is that photoPXL and Rockhopper do two different things. Also, I wanted to have them separate in case I decided I needed to retire from either for one reason or another.

New Ideas

Now that we seem out of pandemic mode, I will introduce several workshops for the coming years. I will be switching my model to do workshops with no more than 5 participants.

I don’t like carpool workshops. The point of doing a workshop is to continuously learn not only from the workshop leader but also from each other. By maintaining the whole workshop in one vehicle, we can do that. Also, we can use a vehicle that can go where others can’t.

As I mentioned in the video, I will be adding new workshop destinations that are photographically some of the most amazing places over the coming few months.

Mentoring

I will soon launch a new mentoring concept. I have spoken with many of my past workshop attendees, and there is a need for focused one-on-one coaching and mentoring. The mentoring program will allow you, as a photographer, to tailor a program designed just for what you want. We can focus on photographing a location, post-production, philosophy, aesthetics, and fine art printing. These could also include customizing your workflow from the camera to the print. The bottom line is that the mentor concept is about what you want. They can be online, in person, or in combination. I’ll have more to say about this soon.

Private Workshops

Monument Valley

I have had feedback from some workshop attendees who said they would like a private workshop solely focused on their needs. Over the last several years, I have done private workshops, which have proven to be a fantastic opportunity for individual growth.

These workshops can be for one to as many people as you can gather together. You pick the location and your goals. I will then tailor an experience for you that achieves your objectives. You are in control.

I will handle putting a start-to-end adventure for you. I’ll make the itinerary with you, select hotels, and arrange bookings, transportation, meals, lodging, and unique side trips like airplanes, helicopters, and boats.

Printing Workshops

We have been having a great time doing printing workshops. These workshops are held in the digital studio at the Indianapolis Art Center, where I am an artist in residence. The latest printers from Epson and Canon, along with an automated cutter, are just a part of the gear I have there. I can do a one-on-one printing workshop, too.

Remember my mantra: you don’t have a photograph until you can hold it in your hands.

The Regular Workshops

Rockhopperworkshops.com is the place to find out everything about our current workshop lineup. We offer a Printing Workshop in October, an Antarctica trip at the end of November, and a fantastic workshop to the Faroe Islands in May with Steve Gosling and myself. Throw on top of this a Palouse Workshop in June (now sold out email Kevin to be put on wait list) and a Greenland Workshop in August.

I’ll announce additional workshops over the coming weeks, so keep your eyes open. You can sign up to be notified of workshops on the Rockhopper site or join as a member on this site (FREE), and you’ll be notified of the latest workshops as they are announced.

Final Words

It’s all about the love of photography. What better way to do what we love than in some fantastic location? I want to help you get to where you want to go. From workshops, mentoring, and private workshops, I am ready to give you what is needed to make the most of your passion for photography.

My photography career has been beyond anything I could have ever dreamed of. Please consider letting me share my dreams with you and help make yours come true.

Thank You!

Photography is my passion and has been for 45 plus years. My career in photography has allowed me to travel the world, meet some of the most interesting people on the planet and see things I could never have dreamed of. My goal is to share the passion of pictures taking through photographs and teaching with as many people as I can hoping it brings them as much joy and happiness as it has me. I do this through Rockhopper Workshops and other projects as well as teaching at my Gallery in Indianapolis.
