Get Out And Visit A Local Gallery

In Indianapolis, and I’m sure in other cities, we have what is called gallery night.  Taking place normally on the first and second Fridays of the month, galleries open their doors and hold openings for new exhibits.  This past Friday, Debra and I met up downtown and visited a small off-the-beaten-path gallery, The Storage Space, and attended an opening show of 22 photographers.  The show was curated and presented by the Aurora Photo Center and Mary Goodwin, the host and owner of Aurora Photo Center.

The show’s name was Fulcra.  The theme was Transformational Moments in Photographic Practice.   This one was very different, unlike many shows that are either by one artist or show the same old images.  Mary Goodwin is a great curator, and all the work in the show spoke to the viewer and was different enough to make one stop and admire and in some cases, try to figure out it was made.  It was very refreshing to see this kind of work.

It was also a great opportunity to meet the artists and, in some cases, the subjects in the photographs. The show space was a bit rough, being in a big garage-type storage space, thus the name Storage Space Gallery.  That added to the home spin charm.

After the show, Debra and I returned home and grilled out.  Dinner conversation was filled with discussions on the images we saw and what we liked.  I highly recommend that you get out and visit similar shows in your towns.  We look forward to the next show.

Photography is my passion and has been for 45 plus years. My career in photography has allowed me to travel the world, meet some of the most interesting people on the planet and see things I could never have dreamed of. My goal is to share the passion of pictures taking through photographs and teaching with as many people as I can hoping it brings them as much joy and happiness as it has me. I do this through Rockhopper Workshops and other projects as well as teaching at my Gallery in Indianapolis.
