As many of you know, I work out of my home but also have a studio/gallery in downtown Indianapolis. We are located in The Stutz Building. The building is over 100 years old and was previously the car factory for the Stutz automobile. The building has a lot of great charm and energy. Twenty-plus years ago the building was bought by Turner Woodward who is one very cool person. He converted and updated the building with the goal of providing spaces for artists and start-up entrepreneurs.
When we moved there 5 years ago it was like the coolest thing. We were now part of a thriving artist community. Every year there would be a giant open house that attracted thousands of visitors to the spaces. It has been great fun.
The Building Is Sold

Like all things in life, change is inevitable, and late last year they sold the building. The new owners have big plans to turn the building into a destination location for downtown Indianapolis attracting more people to the building and hopefully the resident artists.
The artist rendering as shown in this article make the place look like it will be really cool to be part of. We’re eager to see the remodel start as well as the final product.
They Asked Us To Move

Just about 4 weeks ago we received notice that we needed to vacate our present space. We loved our space and no one ever wants to move. The Stutz management offered us a newly remodeled space (except for the windows) one floor up (the fourth floor).
The new space is larger and has a new HVAC system. It has north light too, and that is any photographer’s dream. This will be great for evaluating prints. Plus it has an exposed brick wall, plenty of power outlets, and gigabyte internet for fast wired and wireless service.

The Stutz gave us until September 15th to move. Well, we got right to work and we are now up and running at about 85% done.
We decided we would adjust our business focus on this new space to set it up for more teaching and video tutorial production. Since the pandemic wall print sales have plummeted and we have since moved much of our print sales to an online store, raberEYES.com.

As you may know, I am a big believer in printing. Simply put, I don’t believe a photo is complete until you are holding it in your hand. For many printing has been very intimidating and a lot of folks have avoided it. Our goal is to help photographers see not only the benefits as well as the excitement of holding and making their own prints, but also how with a good workflow and proper software printing can be easy as well as addictive.
Starting this fall we will be running Fine Art Printing workshops at this new location. Over the coming years as the building is remodeled it will be a great location for doing this. We can work and eat in the same location and we are just blocks from the city center.
I am happy to say that while discussing this with many printing-related vendors the support is fantastic. I’ll have a lot more to say about all of this as we get things more formalized. I am very excited about this and look forward to sharing this opportunity with everyone real soon.

Over the coming weeks, we have some custom-built desks we are waiting on as well as desks for the attendees who will be part of these workshops. We also need to install our gallery hanging system and get some prints on the wall. I’ll share an article on our official grand opening with images and a video tour when everything is complete.

Debra and I are super excited about this and hope we can do other seminars and workshops here and just not for printing. We will also be able to do interviews and multiple-person tutorials on a variety of subjects from hardware to software as we ramp up.
There’s never a dull moment in my life and I take great joy in sharing my passion for photography with others. So, stay tuned and we will keep you posted on our progress.
Thank you for being part of the photoPXL community.
