Young Photographers

Screen Shot 2016-01-20 at 4.34.26 PM

There is no question that making a living in photography is difficult.  Many things have changed since I started my career in photography.  I sometimes reflect that I must have had my studio and business in the golden age.  There was no internet, not sharing of images and the there wasn’t even FedEx.  Now every phone takes a picture.  More people are taking pictures than ever before.  Photographers are having a more challenging time making a living.

So, I thought it would be good to sit down with some young photographers and find out how they are doing and if they are able to make a living in photography.  I asked Katrin Eismann for help in arranging this and she was kind enough to find three SVA Graduate students to sit down with me and share their experiences.

I must say I was quite surprised.  I had preconceived ideas of what the younger generation was doing.  I envisioned them as Instagram shooters with no experience in the craft of photography.  Boy was I wrong!

Enjoy the 43 minute video where Tahir Karmali, Rocio Segura and Bon Duke share their vision and experiences pursuing a career in photography.

Photography is my passion and has been for 45 plus years. My career in photography has allowed me to travel the world, meet some of the most interesting people on the planet and see things I could never have dreamed of. My goal is to share the passion of pictures taking through photographs and teaching with as many people as I can hoping it brings them as much joy and happiness as it has me. I do this through Rockhopper Workshops and other projects as well as teaching at my Gallery in Indianapolis.
