Spend a long weekend working withMichael Reichmann, one of the world’s leading landscape photographers and photographic educators. Limited to just 9 people, this long-weekend field workshop and image processing seminar will take place in north-central Ontario — about a 2 hours drive from Toronto. Shooting locations will includeLake Muskokaby boat,The Torrance Barrens,Hardy Lake provincial nature reserve,and a full day in the famousAlgonquin Provincial Park.

TheMuskokaregion andAlgonquin Parkare located on the pre-Cambrian shield, the earth’s 2 billion year-old bedrock. It is a pristine land of lakes and forests, and in mid-October fall colour may be in its full splendor. Accommodation and seminar sessions will be at the luxuryCranberry Marsh Cove, with additional sessions at my nearby country home.

This will be an intensive one-on-one digital workshop, consisting of field work, print critiques and image processing instruction. Here’s the draft itinerary…

Friday, October 17

Arrive at Muskoka after 3pm. Drive yourself (2 hours from Toronto) if you live locally. If you’re coming from elsewhere by plane, transportation arrangements from Toronto airport will be made.

Welcome dinner. Print review and discussion. (Participants will bring samples of their work for evaluation and critique).

Saturday, October 18

Morning:Hardey Lake nature reserve. A beautiful small lake surrounded by forest. An easy 1Km hike.

Afternoon:Torrance Barrens— similar to the moors of Scotland. An easy 2 Km hike.

Evening:A hands-on Photoshop / image processing seminar

Sunday, October 19

Morning:Dawn, shooting from a boat on Lake Muskoka

Afternoon:Exploring fall colour on Muskoka’s varied trails and forests. Light hiking.

Evening:Workshop member’s image review and digital image processing seminar

Monday, October 20

All Day:Algonquin Provincial Park; an all day shoot. Light hiking.

Evening:A reception at Michael’s nearby country home

Field Shooting

We will be photographing fall colour and the rich landscape of northern Ontario in several different locations, on the land and from the water. In addition to exploring some unique locations there will be extensive opportunities to discuss and learn shooting techniques, field craft, and for intensive one-on-one discussions and Q&A sessions with Michael. Any and all photographic topics and techniques can be discussed, explained and put into practice.

Image Processing Seminar

This field workshop also has a comprehensive classroom style seminar on digital image processing. Saturday and Sunday evenings are set aside for intensive classroom style sessions where Photoshop techniques for image processing will be explored, as well as a review of various plug-ins, tools and techniques for basic, intermediate and advanced image processing.

An LCD video projector will be available, and participants will be able to review and display their work, with critique from Michael as well as other workshop members. AnEpson 2200printer will be available so that prints can be made, and printing techniques discussed.

In the event that the weather is really bad (I’m talkingtorrential downpours) we will be able to expand our indoor digital image processing sessions as desired.

Cost

The cost of this all-inclusive workshop / seminar U.S. $1,495 per person. (CDN $1,995). This fee includes local ground, and hotel accommodation for 4 nights (double occupancy), as well as all meals and alcoholic beverages. TheCranberry Marsh Coveis a luxury resort hotel. There are no additional costs.

Accommodations are two person to a room. If you prefer a private room there will be a supplementary charge of U.S. $200 (CDN $275) — if available.

Payment of the full fee is required to confirm your reservation. If you need to cancel for any reason there will be a full refund (less U.S. $100), butonlyif a replace for you can be found. If we have to cancel the trip for any reason you will receive a full refund.

Video Filming

On this workshop we will joined byChris Sandersonwho will be filming the workshop forThe Luminous Landscape Video Journal.

Naturally, we will need your consent to be filmed. Once you have registered for the Workshop we will be sending you a Release Form. This will signify your permission to be included in the filming that will be done during the workshop. We will, of course, be providing you with complimentary copies of whatever video or print material comes out of this. Of course this will provide you with a professional quality video record of this trip, something that no other workshop can provide.

Finally, I want to assure you that the filming of the workshop will in no way interfere with the workshop and the time that we spend together. Chris is an experienced filmmaker and will be shooting in an unobtrusive documentary style. Of course, as an experienced cinematographer and director Chris will be available as another resource person to all Workshop members. If you have problem with being filmed during the workshop please ask me for more information, or consider taking an alternative workshop.

This liability release will certify that the participant is physically fit and capable of participating in outdoor photography exercises in field locations, and is fully and completely aware of any associated risks created by field locations and weather.
