It’s About Light

One of the leading cliches in photography is that it is as much about light as it is about subject. Interesting light can make a mundane subject interesting, but it takes a really remarkable subject to hold its own without decent light.

The two photographs below were taken on a shoot inThe Palousein June, 2007. They were taken just one minute and 22 seconds apart.

Other than a slight shift in camera position and 82 seconds worth of cloud movement nothing changed except the light, caused by rapidly moving clouds and their interplay with an attractively geometric landscape.

Something to ponder.
