Mud Creek Bridge #2, Ontario 1998 (D)

This photographwas taken right in downtown Toronto, just about 1 km from where I live.  There is a small bridge in a residential area called Rosedale that crosses the Mud Creek.  Just add fall colours, f/8.0 and I was there.

Burning Tree, Ontario 1999(D)

Once again due to the limitations of web image screen resolution this thumbnail appears blurred and doesn’t do justice to the full-sized image. Click on the thumbnail above to see what is really looks like. It utilizes theGaussian Blurtechnique that I developed. 

Every October the trees in the north-east of Canada put on their remarkable display. In 1999 the colours were quite subdued, but a few intense trees stood out. This one was located in the Credit River valley about 1 hour northwest of Toronto. Though I use digital techniques sparingly, usually only for image processing, in this case adding Gaussian blur softened the tree’s leaves, creating a look closer to the way the tree "felt" to me that morning than the literal image captured by the camera. I particularly like the softness and delicacy of the trees in the background which can best be seen in the enlarged image.

Flaming Tree, Ontario 1999

A shaft of late afternoon sunlight makes this brilliant tree stand-out against the otherwise muted colours of a fall afternoon. Taken at 400mm from the side of a highway in the Georgian Bay region of Ontario.

Colour Splash, Ontario 1999 (D)

Again, a long lens was used. This time looking across a small lake in Muskoka, Ontario. Nature is inherently messy. The photographer’s job is to try and find pleasing order and pattern, and then to isolate it. TheGaussian Blurtechnique was used here as well.

Aspens #1, Route 168, October 1999

At the base of the Eastern Sierra in California on Highway 395 lies the town of Bishop. Running west out of Bishop into the mountains is Route 168. It is a dead-end road that leads to Lake Sabrina and South Lake.  In late October ’99 fall colours in that area were at their absolute peak.
