A look at this month's Show & Tell submissions, featuring photographs inspired by serenity and the places and moments that bring a sense of peace.

You showed up for serenity – and you brought the world with you.

This month’s challenge drew images from New Zealand to Tanzania, from a Navajo hogan at Monument Valley to the nave of Salisbury Cathedral. Still water. Quiet coastlines. A lone fisherman on the Ionian Sea. A lion napping like a house cat. Every one of these photographs is a different answer to the same question: where do you find peace?

This is Part 1 of 2. Part 2 arrives in your inbox next.

Ravi Gill

“Dawn in January – sunrise just coming up on a garden light and pot that are frosted. The moon and its reflections coming through our annex window.”

Why we love it: Love the feeling of both.

Dave Barton

Melbourne, Australia

“Taken during a portrait workshop in Melbourne. Naturally, our fellow photographers were also our subjects. For me, this image radiates tranquillity.”

Why we love it: There’s peace there.

Tom Biondo

tombiondo.com

Caribbean

“Shot on Ektachrome EPP on a cruise liner during off hours for a fashion magazine. One in full afternoon daylight, the other moments after sunset. Both at peaceful moments far from the madding crowd.”

Why we love it: The colors of the sky. The composition and the grain!

Curt Steyers

Bar Harbor, Maine

“Scene captured during a foggy early morning walk in Bar Harbor, Maine.”

Why we love it: The mood.

Ravi Gill

Salisbury Cathedral, UK

“Taken in January 2026 in Salisbury Cathedral. It was surprisingly empty and serene. Shot on my iPhone.”

Why we love it: Mesmerizing.

Don Coyner

Alabama Hills, California

“I’ve photographed Alabama Hills many times but always focused on the majesty of the Sierra range. This year I slowed down and took time to explore the remarkable features and stones all around me.”

Why we love it: Other worldy. Love the B&W and the deep skies.

Barney Taxel

Joshua Tree, California

“The tenth frame on a 120 Tri-X roll (Pentax 6×7), exposed almost randomly to finish the roll. A Zen moment – the capture carried none of the weight of a precious image. It just is. In that way, serenity.”

Why we love it: It just is that way.

Martyn Thomas

Morecambe and Yorkshire Dales, UK

“The Stone Pier, Morecambe, UK. Ingleborough Sunset from Ribblehead, Yorkshire Dales, UK.”

Why we love it: Feels like a painting. Love the use of square compositions.

Paul Kitcatt

Scotland

“A cold, windy spring day in Scotland. And here’s this man walking slowly along the shoreline, in his high visibility workwear, the weather changing every five minutes behind him as it does here, but he’s not bothered because we’re used to this, and calm is on the inside, blow the wind as it may.”

Why we love it: His statement says it all. Calm on the inside, blow the wind as it may.

Christopher Hall

Ragged Point, Highway 1, California

“Driving up Hwy 1 along the California coast at Ragged Point.”

Why we love it: Classic Hwy 1. The light on those cliffs.

Lear Levin

“The Statue of Liberty at dusk.”

Why we love it: Gorgeous!

John Manger

Why we love it: Two quiet moments.

Lynn Carter

Why we love it: Stillness.

Matt Kaarma

Sydney, Australia

“Super relaxed on a train trip. Sydney, Australia.”

Why we love it: Eye wanders a bit and surprises.

Matt Kaarma

South Coast of Australia

“Image taken on the South Coast of Australia.”

Why we love it: The light on the water.

Alan Johnston

Ortigia, Siracusa, Sicily, Italy

“Sunrise over the Ionian Sea with a solo fisherman. Taken from the island of Ortigia – the historic heart of the city of Syracuse, Sicily.”

Why we love it: Dawn and a solo fisherman on the Ionian Sea. Hard to beat.

Chuck Derus

Devil Track Lake, Minnesota

“To Minnesotans, “Up North” is more than a direction. It’s a way of life. Follow your heart until you find your special place that brings peace of mind – your cares are all left behind. When you arrive up north, you’ll know it in your heart.”

Why we love it: Stunning!

John Freud

Boerne, Texas

“Peaceful, still, graceful and fluid in nature. Mineral Creek Pool and Reflecting Upcoming Spring on the Cibolo Creek.”

Why we love it: So peaceful.
