I am pleased to announce our new offer of my father Michael Reichmann’s 20 year retrospective book!

About:

Published August 1, 2014, this large format, cloth bound, hard-cover book has 400 pages, containing 380 images. It was designed by Arturo Chapa, one of the world’s top book designers.

This book is available in two editions; a signed and numbered limited-edition (500 copies only), contained in a clam-shell style slip-case, and also in an open series hard-covered edition without slip-case.

“Michael Reichmann’s –  A 20-Year Photography Retrospective –  is not simply a book, but rather an experience.
Something to live with each day; turn a page, and inhale.  You are looking through the eyes of a Master”.
–– Jakob de Boer

This limited edition book will not be reprinted.

Many people have written about this beautiful work which was made in 2014, a few years before Michael passed away.

Here’s a link to a review

Here is a lovely video of Kevin and Chris formerly with the site discussing Michael’s book:

Clearly, this book carries a deep emotional resonance for me and with many members of the site. I hope that people will buy one, not only to support the grant set up in his name but for the beautiful testament that is his work, from which we have all learned so much.

Michael created The Luminous Landscape for us all to thrive within, and this book shows how passionate his life lived in photography was. It is an inspiration. I watched the process up close as my dad conceived of and compiled this work. The work of a tireless photographic expert and consummate artist.

The 20 year retrospective’s initial proceeds went to The Luminous Endowment, which has since morphed into The Michael Reichmann Project Grant. You can read about it here!

All proceeds of your purchase will go to The Michael Reichmann Project Grant, which will continue to honor my dad’s wish to support photographers in their quest to fulfill their dreams and develop their craft by honoring talent and vision.

During a chat at a Japanese restaurant with Irene and I, just a few months before his passing, we all opined that the cover image taken in Iceland might be his greatest photograph. I was stunned that he agreed. It was not just for it’s aesthetic achievement that he believed it so, but because of the auspicious nature of how it was captured.

Here’s a video of Michael discussing the taking and making of the cover photo:

But wait, there’s more: We will also be including in your purchase, Michael’s monograph titled “Mexico: The Light and The Warmth”, free of charge.

About the monograph: (THIS IS NOW OUT OF STOCK AND WILL NO LONGER BE PART OF ANY ORDERS MADE GOING FORWARD)

From Michael Reichmann’s introduction to Mexico: The Light and The Warmth:

Located about a thousand kilometers south of the US border, and a three and a half hour drive north of Mexico City, San Miguel de Allende enjoys an almost idyllic climate, and is about as crime-free a small city as can be found anywhere in the world. There is no airport and no industry. There is not a single traffic light or even a stop sign.

The town is known as the “Heart of Mexico”, not only because it was one of the towns where the Mexican independence movement began, but also because it is located in the geographic centre of the country.

As a photographer I was captivated from day one. At an altitude of some 6,200 feet above sea level, and with no nearby industry, the air in San Miguel is exceptionally transparent. With most days being dry and sunny (except during the monsoon season in late summer), colours are intense and shadows are strong. Houses are brightly painted, and the town is visually a treat for a photographer’s lens.

The people of San Miguel, as most Mexicans, have a warmth and friendliness that is contagious. Just as once was the case in a simpler time further north, in Mexico and especially smaller towns, people still greet each other as they pass in the street. Strangers as well.

We ship internationally.

We are experiencing a high volume of orders.
Do to the high amount of orders, coupled with the timing of holiday shipments bottle-necking courier times, you may find your book(s) arrive a little beyond the expected shipping date.
