John MacMorris

“I came upon these geese enjoying the quiet of a pond near my home. Fortunately, I had my camera and the geese cooperated.”

Why we love it: The geese cooperated.

Thomas Labash

Monterey Aquarium, California

“Watching the jellyfish float peacefully at the Monterey Aquarium brings a sense of calm and wonder. These ancient creatures pulse gently as they ride the ocean currents and go with the flow.”

Why we love it: Majestic creature.

Alan Johnston

Off the island of Ortigia, Sicily – Ionian Sea

“Titled “Eras” – by happenstance, the French three-masted barque Belem (built 1896) was sailing past just as I photographed a small yacht on the mirrored Ionian Sea off the island of Ortigia. May 2022.”

Why we love it: What are the odds? Two eras, one frame.

Alan Johnston

Rome, Italy

“Unexpected serenity – early morning space and stillness in Rome. The street arch dates from the 15th century. May 2022.”

Why we love it: The golden arches!

Randy Emig

Osgood Trails Quarry, Indiana

“One of our favorite spots in SE Indiana is the Osgood Trails at a former rock quarry. Sunsets are beautiful all year. Not far from Versailles State Park, a beautiful place for watching birds.”

Why we love it: So beautiful! Love the colors and aspect ratio.

Bertrand Lamon

Valais, Swiss Alps, Switzerland

“Serenity is a cornerstone of life quality, yet it grows increasingly rare. My two photographs capture this through distinct lenses – one through the harmonious rhythms of traditional life, the other through paragliding over wilderness. Both taken in Valais between 2020 and 2022. Serenity is still attainable today, reachable through diverse paths.”

Why we love it: Well shot and well said!

Hans Schmitt

Marinette, Wisconsin

“End of the Season” – late fall at the Marinette marina. “Smoke Fog” – heavy smoke from western wildfires mixed with morning fog, creating soft orange light.”

Why we love it: Fog does things other light can’t.

Terry McDonald

Tarangire National Park, Tanzania

“Cuddles. Yes, it’s a lion. A real lion. In the wild, along the Tarangire River. Having watched lions for years, I’m always amazed at how much they behave like house cats. Petting is not permitted.”

Why we love it: Cuddles the Lion!

Craig Pynn

Redwood National Park, California

“The Lady Bird Johnson Grove Trail in Redwood National Park on an overcast May afternoon. I was struck by the silence – even the birds were still – as I walked among these ancient trees. Panorama of 6 images, Nikon D850, Sigma 14mm, 1/640 at f/7.1, ISO 1600.”

Why we love it: You can almost feel the air.

Hubert Steve Cole

Red Cedar River, Wisconsin

“After a rainstorm, I visited a favorite local spot and watched the Red Cedar River flow toward the Mississippi. A 5-stop ND filter on my Fujifilm XT5 35mm f/2 for a 15-second exposure, processed in monochrome. The print won an award at the local art show – and sold.”

Why we love it: Congrats! Time to make some more prints!

Dan Jacobs

Piper’s Lagoon Park, Nanaimo, British Columbia

“I saw a woman walking slowly down the beach at low tide, enjoying the solitude and the gentle rhythm of the waves. A scene filled with serenity. Fujifilm X-T50, Viltrox XF 35mm f/1.7, 1/750 sec, ISO 500.”

Why we love it: Filled with serenity.

Don Owers

Wanaka, New Zealand

“The Tree in Winter” – the famous Wanaka tree, much photographed. Shot at last light in winter 2018, so still I smoothed the water in a single exposure. “Poplar Leaves, Clutha River” – a departure from epic landscape work. Fast shutter to still the leaves, water blurred in post to reduce distraction.”

Why we love it: Two approaches to stillness – one epic, one intimate. Both work.

Ian Porter

“Five images capturing different aspects of serenity. Roman Catholic Cathedral in Galway, Ireland (Canon 5D2, 24-105mm). Moorea, Tahiti x3 (Leica R4 with 28mm Elmarit and 90mm Summicron). Dawn crossing the Tasman Sea (Leica CL, 55-135mm Apo Zoom).”

Why we love it: All so serene and have a feeling of being there.

Peter Campbell

Blackwood River Estuary, Augusta, Western Australia

“Sunrise on the Blackwood River estuary, south coast of Western Australia. Shot on Ektar film with a Chamonix 4×5 camera. I call it “Liquid Gold” – the rising sun gives that appearance to the water lapping the shore.”

Why we love it: Amazing!

Merrill Anderson

Niwot, Colorado

“Pelicans on a local ranch pond, stopping over for about two weeks on their spring migration. April 2026. Canon R7, 100-400mm.”

Why we love it: Pelicans on the move, but in no hurry.

Erik Brammer

Streuobstwiesen, Darmstadt, Germany

“An aging meadow orchard near Darmstadt – some parts left to themselves, others tended by humans. Some trees appear to decompose, and then come spring, they surprise you. Fog as the decisive element. More background in my article on 35mmc.com: “Brothers and Sisters Unite!”

Why we love it: The fog and those trees. The orchard keeps coming back.

Mike Rank

Monument Valley

“Pre-sunrise at Monument Valley during a workshop. Everything set up, waiting for the sun. Instead, I tripped the shutter when a white column of smoke rose from a Navajo hogan in the foreground. The smoke rising from that wood stove defines the Navajo nation’s relationship to their land – something many landscape photographers walk past without recognizing.”

Why we love it: That smoke changed everything about this image.
